Discover our Lucha Libre Mexico City tour

and feel the adrenaline

Lucharán a dos de tres caidas! Lucha libre is a rather modern Mexican tradition, but that does not make it any less spectacular. It is a demonstration of skill and folklore in equal measure, where the colorful masks are a way of bringing to the 21st century those rooted in our history, carved in stone many years ago – between tight side ropes and impressing maneuvers, it celebrates and demonstrates the lively and energetic spirit of our land.

With the unyielding fervor of the public cheering on their star-fighter and the lights creating a completely immersive atmosphere, our Lucha Libre Mexico City Tour is a moment of deep delight, a must-see available to take your upcoming stay in Colima 71 to the next level and further uphold our hotel in Roma Mexico City as a pillar of culture.

The history of Lucha Libre

Historical records imply that the first Lucha Libre demonstrations in Mexico date back to the 19th century, during the French occupation, when it was a spectacle for foreign enjoyment. Enrique Ugartechea, known as the first Mexican luchador, jumped to fame in the second half of the century, around 1863, and created the foundations of what Lucha Libre is today – a sport that borrows elements from Greco-Roman wrestling, such as locks.

More than 50 years later, in 1920, Salvador Lutteroth, the main promoter of professional Lucha Libre, created Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre – today known in English as the World Wrestling Council – which began to set the regulations and folklore that today surround the mystical world of wrestling.

Of course, the story is as wonderful as the sport itself, and has careful details that, rather than being contained in words, should be experienced firsthand. Our private guide, included in our Lucha Libre Mexico City tour, will take you through the events that gave rise to Lucha Libre as we know it today and will appease your curiosity before an unforgettable show begins.

A night at the Arena Coliseo in Mexico City

It's time to see the masked men do their thing! After a well-rounded introduction to the history of Lucha Libre, it is time for the show at the Arena Coliso in Mexico City, the oldest wrestling arena in the world, located downtown and where Santo himself faced Black Shadow in 1952.

Approximately two hours of adrenaline, fun, and entertainment filled with color and applause from an ecstatic public supporting their favorite fighter – from an all-time winner to an underdog against all odds. Maybe you will even witness a miraculous, last-minute victory, the kind that becomes a legend.

In Lucha Libre, anything can happen.

Then, to wrap it all up with a golden ribbon, enjoy some exquisite mezcal cocktails in one of the top bars in town before returning to Colima 71, our hotel in Roma Mexico City and your home away from home.
